Girls night out '89

Inspired by Walshy Fire's sweet talking over his Maliboom Boom radio exclusive, we went looking for some video from the era which inspired Walshy's mixing style. Here's some rare VHS-to-Youtube footage of Stone Love live in session 1989, with some really impressive dressers to be seen.

Neon-Classical Tees

The cleverly styled T-shirt collection from I&I Clothing brings back memories from way back. Had I actually donned these in my prime, I would have been the best, most futuristic looking adolescent male on the block.

Walshy Fire of Black Chiney

If you're in downtown Miami, try running your FM radio through the following in the late afternoon: 89.1, 89.5, 92.7, 97.7 or 96.1. You will hear that there is definitely a Caribbean thing in the air.

One of the greatest voices on Miami airwaves - also the pre-game DJ to ignite Miami Heat home games - we could not pass on the opportunity to have a Radio Maliboom Boom episode with Walshy Fire of Black Chiney. Listen to his exclusive Radio Maliboom Boom mix and read on for the full interview, as Walshy talks to us about Miami reggae and how he came to be part of Black Chiney. And also just why anyone might once have wanted the alarm clock to go off at 2.00 am, and then again at 3.00 am.

Dinner and a concert

Taking some of my greatest passions: TV, music and food, chef Sam Mason has conjured up a dish called Dinner With The Band. The TV show is a great concept, a clash between the worlds of music and food. A couple of weeks back saw brilliant group Theophilus London visit the studio, with some flavourful end results.

Federation Sound

"All over [NYC] you can hear dancehall blasting from dollar vans and clothing stores. It's an essential part of the fabric that makes up the city.", says Max Glazer one half of Federation Sound.

With a life long passion for non-stop reggae music, Max Glazer and Kenny Meez have played a big part in the making of that very NYC fabric.

When Federation Sound went into internet broadcasting three years ago, they quickly rose to become one the most prominent and ambitious (weekly!) dancehall podcasts to grace the web. In some ways this was emblematic of reggae music and mixes moving online - an evolution which has also helped propel Federation Sound into becoming one of the most revered reggae sounds on the East coast.

When asked for a Radio Maliboom Boom mix exclusive, Federation Sound got back to us with the definite guide to the anthems in store for summer (a lot of which have grown into club staples since).

Listen to the mix and read the full Federation Sound interview after the jump.
